Ugly Babies
Hello, Reader!
This little dev post is more for me, and what I'd hope my future self to know.
Like most nervous artists, sometimes we get an idea that dear to our hearts. We want to see that idea realized to its best potential like a parent towards a child. However, its common to hold a project too close and baby it. Often in development, ideas shift and change, and contact with reality forces thoughts into shapes we don't immediately expect. As with Star Season, the final project ended up being almost completely different from the initial idea. Talents, deadlines and doubt really bruise up our precious babies, but all the better than for our babies to never live out the lives we hope they can.
Star Season is my precious, ugly baby grown up. I thought her up when I realized I was babying all my other major projects, and as a result nothing was being made. I looked for an excuse to challenge myself with a new project deadline, discovered the Harvest Moon Jam with four days left, and demanded I acknowledge what my abilities are. The result is a game that is visually messy, unpolished, but complete and playable. I'm proud to have made it.
I hope you will enjoy Star Season for all it's 5 minutes of gameplay.
